Balchik is situated on the seaside 40 km northeast from Varna. The town is famous for its botanical garden and the castle of the romanian queen Maria. Remarkable are also the museums, the gallery, the church and the terrace-like situated houses.

The town develops mainly tourist activities during the summer season. The managment of hotels and restaurants is the basic income source for the locals. The yacht port grants the possibility for the quayage of 60 yachts. The yacht-tourism is developed, which offers various journeys along the north Black Sea coast.

Balchik is a center for multicultural activities. Every year a great number of festivals are being organized.

With traditions is the childrens festival "The smiles of the sea". With the tendency to become annual festivals are "Balfest" - an international documentary film festival and the international Film forum.

The town is prominent with its cultural holidays during september which are connected with the names of Ivan Granitski, Stefan Tzanev and others.

In Balchik there is: an ethnographic complex of the Bulgarian national revival, an art gallery, a monastery school.Three churches and a mosque capture the interest of the tourists as well.

The art gallery in Balchik has an over 40-year old history. Its founder is Klara Petkova. In the gallery there are masterpieces from Vladimir Dimitrov-Maistora and some work of Salvador Dhali has been exhibited as well.
